About Think Do Capital

Think Do Capital is a home for my consulting and entrepreneurial work. Through Think Do Capital I help you develop your thinking and then turn those new ideas into real results.

Much of my life has involved bridging the gaps between corporate offices and dusty streets. I am an Associate Professor at the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) – Africa's leading business school. Across my consulting, teaching and entrepreneurial work, I have two decades of experiences of different contexts, mostly in South Africa but increasingly in the United States and on the greater African continent.

Project portfolio
Beyond my strategy consulting in the impact area, I am also the co-founder and chairperson of The Gumboots Foundation. The Foundation connects South Africans living internationally with opportunities to make a positive impact in the country. I am driving tech-enabled learning at Sakhimfundo – a youth center currently under construction in Alexandra Township, Johannesburg. Until recently I was the chairperson of Dahlak Africa, which has been integral in the establishment of the Izwi Alliance – a vibrant support network for domestic workers.

I am developing a prototype of an isiZulu language board game. I recently ran a small crowdsourcing campaign to support unemployed tailors with mask making.

I was the lead judge for the Trialogue Strategic Corporate Social Investment Awards – a respected corporate philanthropy award in South Africa. I am an occasional judge for startup competitions. I currently mentor a few impact entrepreneurs in the early stages of establishing their businesses.

At GIBS
I am an Associate Professor and teach strategy, inclusive business and social innovation. I also focus on impact entrepreneurship, shared value and tech-enabled change. I publish business case studies on the Harvard Educators platform. I established the capstone MBA Strategy Implementation course and the MBA Diversity and Inclusion course. As the previous head of the GIBS Center for Leadership and Dialogue, I have also led a number of important initiatives to catalyze change in South Africa. The US-based Aspen Institute awarded me the Faculty Pioneer Award for working to resolve the world's grand challenges.
International experience
I have lived in Eswatini (previously Swaziland), Colombia and England. My wife is from Seattle. Our marriage opened doors to the US through regular family trips. These have expanded into work trips to Boston, Atlanta, Chicago and New York. For the last few years I have taken MBA students to Seattle, San Francisco and Silicon Valley.

Study experience
I have a PhD in Sociology (Wits) and an MBA (UP-GIBS). I have also studied a number of short courses from GIBS, as well as the Harvard 'Kennedy' School and Harvard Business School.

My home
I live in Seattle with my wife and three sons. I travel regularly across Africa and to the US.
